Automated Import System

In a few years’ time the Automated Import System will inter alia allow for the submission of declarations for the free circulation of goods anywhere in the European Union, independently of the physical location of the goods. The information is only submitted to Customs once.

In the Netherlands, the Automated Import System has to interface with the current Customs Manifest (Entry). The Automated Import System should be implemented in its entirety by 2013.

The Automated Import System has 3 goals:

• strengthen security at the outer borders of the European Union.
• The business sector may soon submit declarations anywhere in the European Union, independently of the physical location of the goods. Companies only have to submit the data on the goods to Customs only once.
• Customs does not check specific shipments anymore but inspects based on supervision of the chain.
