With the advent of new European legislation all Economic Operators that are based and active in Europe will be assigned an EORI number.
(EORI number = Economic Operators Registration and Identification number).
This number allows economic operators in all member states to be identified in the same manner. This provides efficiency benefits for both these economic operators and Customs. An economic operator is ‘any physical or legal person who, in the course of his business, is involved in activities covered by Customs’.
The EORI number has been launched in the Netherlands on 31 January 2010. All EU member states have already implemented the EORI number. You are required to use the EORI number as an identification number in all customs procedures when exchanging information with Customs.
