Types of storage
In the Netherlands, there are the following options for the storage of goods under customs control:
- temporary storage premises (RTO)
- type B customs warehouse
- type C customs warehouse
- type D customs warehouse
- type E customs warehouse
- free warehouse
- free zone of control type 2
Type A and F customs warehouses and the free zone of control type 1 are not used in the Netherlands.
Treatment of the goods
You may arrange for the goods to undergo certain treatments while they are stored in warehouses and free zones. This will be allowed if it involves:
- preserving goods in good condition
- improving the presentation and commercial quality of the goods
- preparing the distribution or resale of the goods
These may be treatments such as repairing packagings, airing, drying, cooling, freezing, adding preservatives, smoking, sulphuration, greasing, anti-corrosion treatments, cleaning, removing damaged parts, removing decaying goods, sorting, sifting, mechanical purification, filtering, transferring to a different package, affixing trademarks, mixing goods, repacking or packaging goods, etc.
