Payment reminder
Publication date 17-04-2026 | Last update 17-04-2026 |
If you do not pay a tax assessment (on time), you will receive a payment reminder. A reminder is a letter in which we ask you to pay a tax assessment.
Reminder fees
We charge a fee for sending a payment reminder. The extra amount you need to pay depends on how much you owe. The costs of sending a reminder are set out in Article 2 of the State Tax Collection Charges Act.
The reminder notice clearly shows the fee that applies to you. When you pay the outstanding amount, please also pay the reminder fee at the same time.
Paying interest
You must pay interest on the amount shown on the payment reminder. The interest depends on the date we receive your payment. After we have processed your payment, we will send you a letter if you must still pay an outstanding amount.
Payment deadline
You must pay within two weeks of the notice date. This applies to the full outstanding amount, including any notice fees.
How to pay
The payment reminder includes payment instructions. It contains all the information you need to make the payment.
Unable to pay (on time)?
If you can’t pay on time, you may be able to:
- Request a deferral of payment
- Arrange a payment plan
- Check whether you qualify for a waiver of payment
If you do nothing
If you do not pay and do not contact us to request a deferral of payment or tax remission, we will send you a court order. We charge fees for this as well.
Objection to reminder fees
You can file an objection if you disagree with the reminder fee. Your objection will only apply to the reminder fee, not to the tax assessment itself.
Filing an objection
Please send your objection within 6 weeks of the date of the reminder notice. In your letter, make sure you include:
- the date on which you send the objection
- your name, address, and phone number
- the reference number of the payment reminder
- the reason for your objection
- your name and signature at the bottom of the letter
Do you have one or more supporting documents, such as proof of payment? Including them may help us process your objection more quickly.
Please send your letter, together with any attachments, to:

After your objection
- We will send you a confirmation once we have received your objection.
- If we receive your objection on time, we will make a decision within 12 weeks of the date of the notice you are objecting to.
