With the Economic Operators Registration and Identification number (EORI number) Customs identifies economic operators in the same way in all Member States. This yields efficiency benefits for those economic operators and customs alike.
What is an EORI number
This is an identification number. You need it when conducting cross-border business and have to deal with Customs, for example when filing customs declarations.
How to obtain an EORI number
When you first submit a customs declaration, or have one submitted on your behalf, or apply for an authorisation with Customs, you require an EORI number. Depending on your situation, you can create this number yourself or have to apply for one. In both cases, you don’t have to pay for the EORI number.
How to verify an EORI number
If you want to verify whether an EORI number actually does exist, please visit the EU database and enter the number. You will then be able to check if the EORI number is a valid one.
Assignment of EORI number
The EORI number is allocated by the Member State in which the economic operator is established.
EORI database
The European Union centrally registers all EORI numbers in the EORI database for the customs authorities of the various Member States.
EORI number - Consequences for the Customs processes
You are obliged to use the EORI number (or have used it) for all customs activities as the identification number for exchanging data with Dutch Customs.
