Automated Export System (AES) changes on 15 December

The Automated Export System (AES) will change on 15 December 2025 at 12:00 am (midnight). This happens because the European Union (EU) will move from the AES Transition Period to the AES Post-Transition Period.

From that date, all EU Member States (lidstaten) will work under the AES Post-Transition rules. These changes are needed to make that possible.

What will change?

The changes have already been shared with software providers in the Message Implementation Guide (MIG) for AES Export (AES-Uitvoer). These updates will apply from 15 December 2025. Some data fields will change in size or in the type of value you can enter. The main goal of the AES is to make export across the EU clearer and safer. With these updates, we can fully support that goal.

Do you need to take action?

The technical details have already been shared with software providers. If you are a declarant (indiener), please make sure you talk to your software provider to check that these updates are implemented in time.
